Hi Patrick , 

Further to my last mail, I thought it only fair to test the  theory in 
practice.

 Just pushed the 54 back to 1250 ASA by shifting the curve (Then pushed 
it further to 3200 ASA just for a laugh). Does exactly what I thought it 
would do. Some noise , limited dynamic range, but thoroughly usable image 
within the context. Performing arts , here I come !  :-) .
