I have been told that Phase One Capture 1 produces even better images.
Certainly the workflow options within Capture 1 are great but does anyone
have any comments re the quality comparison with Nikon's Capture 3.5 which I
have yet to test?
I have only tried the demo of Capture 1 but I couldn't see any significant advantage over Nikon Capture / Editor 3.5 as far as image quality and for me the colour was better in Nikon Capture.
The workflow is in some ways more logical in Phase 1 Capture but I've got quite used to using the combination of Nikon View and Capture.(+it's cheaper!)
The Raw converter in Photoshop CS appears to be even better than the original with greater scope for interpolation (which seems to be as good as any of the interpolation software available), it is also possible to tweak to get the same colour as the Nikon software. CS also has a lot more 16bit functions which will help keep quality high.
(I have just made a 24" x 42" print from a D1x using the raw converter and obviously a huge amount of interpolation and I'm amazed by the quality).
Using the Photoshop raw converter makes for simple and quick workflow.
Hope this helps
