Amanda, There is a fantastic piece of software you can buy from Calumet (UK) called 'Dont Panic' from Image Recall (www.imagerecall.com) Tel: 01489-798393.
The software rebuilds image files off any media at a sector level so bypassing the index which, I understand, is all that is deleted when you bin data anyway. Used it last week to recover images I had inadvertantly deleted off a one of my camera cards - it worked a treat. Good luck.
