I know 1000Mb/s cards are installed as standard in newer Macs. A quick search with "1000mbps PC network card" flagged up this, amongst others:

Any suggestions for hardware (in the UK) and settings within Device
Manager - at the moment both machines have their cards set for auto detect
but one of the options is to force 100Mb/s.
If I could achieve that rate then my problems would be solved.
