I agree. I bought a Precision 2 near when they first came out... maybe six years ago. I bought it to replace a NIkon LS4500 which was a major hunk of junk. The Imacon has been and still is a superb and very versatile performer. They're available in the used market at rather attractive prices these days.

Hi Andrew,

A basic question here, but the basics are the first place to start: is
your monitor calibrated and profiled? Do the images print as you viewed
them on the monitor or on the camera? I guess I am asking about your
colour management.

Ellie

Excuse my ignorance, I'm here to learn after all! Why is it that I have
my 10D set up for Adobe 98, yet when I download an image from the canon

more heavily saturated?

You should be able to select a starting number for any of the auto

some step-by-step instructions on the ControlledVocabulary filenumbering

points 5 and 6 for this issue.

Hope that helps.

Hi Paul

Can't answer for the Minolta or Nikon Scanners but I ditched my Nikon
LS4000 scanner for a Flextite Precision 2 scanner about 2 years ago and
have not looked back.

Quality is excellent and, in my view, far superior to the two Nikon
scanners I've owned. As more and more photographers move over
completely to digital, quite a few Flextites are up for sale- for
starters have a look on PRODIG's Items For Sale.

Very versatile since it scans everything from 35mm to 5 x 4 and 6 x 17
and is great for 35mm X-pan and Noblex film. Only drawback is it's a
bit slow...but if you're on Mac OSX you can be doing other things
whilst it's scanning.

I've got a digi slr but I do keep going back to my film cameras so I
can't see me giving up my Flextight - just wish I could afford one of
the new top of the range models for even better quality and speed.

Best of luck

Ron Jones

Ellie,

Sorry, I should of included this fairly vital piece of info in my
original post. The monitor is calibrated and the printer profile
matches it 95%. I set the system up myself, I know a colour management
specialist could do a better job, but having looked at the prices
people are charging per profile I think I can live with this margin of
error! The real issue is why the same image looks different in two
separate packages on the same monitor.

Hi Andrew,

When you talk about the Canon File Viewer, are you referring to the Canon
ZoomBrowzer EX? Is that program colour managed? I am guessing here, but in
Capture One you can enable monitor selection, and in PS of course the
monitor profile is taken into account. I see no settings for the Canon
ZoomBrowser. I am not an expert on this program, by any means, but this
might be a possible reason?

Whilst we use Niikons (D1X), this might help since our solution is not
dependant on the camera type:

to fire the studio flash, we use a Quantum 4i radio slave with the sender
plugged into the camera's hot shoe;

to fire the camera, we have a Pocket Wizard (also radio) connected to the
camera's mini-din plug.

This combination works a treat with no clash of frequencies and the
batteries last for a long time.

The kit will cost around 600 but it only has to be bought once.

Hope this helps.

There is an old thread in which we discussed some of this options. I recall
I was strongly suggesting the PocketWizards and some interesting remarks
showed up in favor of Quantum ( and Wein, but in this case the money
difference is huge) for digital gear ,but can't remember well. Perhaps it
makes sense to check the archives and review that info too.

I can't but praise the Pocket Wizards, since in 2 years they have NEVER
failed, not even one single trigger ( transmitter in cameras hot shoe, but
also has the option of plugging to PC sync), and that record easily
surpasses my previous experience with Quantums of all forms and shapes. My
most recent quantums are in the hands of my asisstant and I don't even think
about them.

That is a dramatic price for wireless radio triggering. The "normal" pocket
wizard kit ( Plus version, with both units in a box) is around 350$ and you
need to buy the cables that fit your system(bowens, Profoto, Elinchrome etc)
,so add some extra 30-40 bucks in cables and back ups.

Can't figure out why you paid all that money.

problems downloading from Nikon D1X to my laptop only whereby the download
begins but after transferring 3 or 4 files it just stops, or wont do it at
all.

On a desktop it seems to work fine but not convenient if on location.

Finally phoned Nikon who advise that Nikon View 4 doesn't support OS X. ew
software update should be available in Feb.

They said to run Mac in OS 9 - it seems to work!

Just thought others of you may find this of use.
