Hi,

If you have access to Publisher there's a much better way of extracting
images from Word files than copying/pasting. Open the Word document in
Publisher, right click on the image (PC, I presume control-click on the Mac,
though I'm not sure Publisher is available on the Mac anyway) and choose
Change Picture > Graphics Manager. Select the image and click 'Create Link',
then choose 'Create a file from the full resolution graphic stored in the
document' or something. This will let you save the image as a TIF. If it's a
vector image you may be out of luck though.

Hope this helps,

Martin.
