I could find no way to

software has it's own storage area, if so where is it, and is it OK just to

Earlier versions of PhotoDesk on Mac would not follow aliases to find profiles. Adobe stores its working space profiles in its own location and places an alias in the standard Colorsync profiles folder. Most software will follow that alias to find the profiles but PhotoDesk wouldn't. It only sees actual profiles in the Colorsync profiles folder. Just find the profiles and copy them to one of the standard colorsync profiles locations. Or get the most recent version of PhotoDesk. The most recent version will follow aliases just like most other software.
