If you are shooting in RAW (NEF) mode, the camera's WB settings will have no effect.

For the daylight settings this seems to work fine - for example, if I shoot with the cloudy setting and open the image in Capture, the camera wb is shown as cloudy. I can fiddle around to my heart's content, change my mind and select 'cloudy' from the drop down menu, and the image reverts to exactly the same state as if I'd selected 'recorded value'.
