Just been chatting with a mate about how we're wary of sending our ageing
Nikon F5s off for repair due to reports of bad service. So
I'd like to know about this pro service. How much etc?
Why not ignore the wallies at Nikon and go direct to the people they use for most of their pro servicing which is "Fixation" on 0207 582 3294. It is run by Mike Allen who has been working on Nikons since at least 1970 and what he does not know about them is not worth knowing. He was service manager at Nikon until he got fed up and started his own business - his team now do warranty work for Nikon, Canon & Kodak and will also sell you gear without any pressure but with knowledge that you then get total back-up.
Yes, I am biased as Mike is now an old friend but from the time he totally re-built a shattered Nikon F overnight for me in 1970 until this day I have never had a repair that had to go back for re-adjustment. The fact that most of Fleet St - well Isle of Dogs - buy their gear and have it serviced by Fixation is, I would suggest, a recommendation in itself.
So give them a try
