Hi

I had a good day at Focus on Wednesday and nearly came away with a D2H at a
very good price. I'm not sure if I made the right decision to not buy but
the show gave me the opportunity to handle one and also to get a few points
of view. I could do with some more points of view.

I photograph mainly horses and other fast moving sports for magazines. As a
result I need a fast camera in terms of frame rate and also auto focus. The
D2H gives me all I need but I am somewhat put off by the 4.1 mega pixel
size. My pictures are often used A4 or even A3 in the magazines and
obviously quality is a real issue for me. From the information I have
gleaned from other sports photographers my camera options are rather
limited. The Fuji S2 and D100 both I am told are not quite as good auto
focus as I would need and the D1X doesn't have a fast enough frame rate.

My question is therefore is the D2H just not a big enough mega pixel for the
size of picture I need to be able to provide? I realise the actual size of
picture is not physically A3 or even A4 at 300 dpi but I have had pictures
from my D1 used A4 with quite good results which has given me hope. I did
quiz Nikon at Focus on this issue and the guy I spoke to said that digital
cameras have always been marketed on their mega pixel size but he said the
way the camera processed the information played as an important part in
getting a suitable image. He concluded that I shouldn't have much of a
problem getting a D2H to do what I needed.

I have to say that my time doesn't allow for working with Raw images because
I have to submit pretty much whatever I take so what is used is chosen by
the appropriate people on the magazines. At that point the work is then done
to the edited selection.

Another option is to wait for a D2X which may of may not fit the bill. Who
knows.

Thanks

Matthew
