This seems to me to be perhaps connected with colour space and what .icc profile is being used and how the results are viewed - on screen, in print or AGx paper rather than a blanket comment on digital in general. I find colour management by photographer and lab, by far the most problematical and misunderstood of all the quirks around digital imaging!.
