I adapted a PS WebPhotoGallery file to write
custom pages, and after using it for a year I've
accidentally trashed it whilst re-installing
Panther.
I re-wrote it, but it now generates files with
the .htm suffix rather than .html

I thought PS had a file renaming option but in case not could you try 
"A better finder rename"  which I am sure  will be found at 
www.versiontracker.com
