Hi All I received a letter today notifying me that one of my domain names we due for renewal, which is quite true. However the official looking letter comes from a company Called EU Registry Services who I have never heard of and are not the company I registered this particular domain with. The letter offers to renew the domain name for 2 years for �60 which is about 3 times the cost of doing it through my current domain registry company.
Further investigation reveals that this is a scam. The company, EU Registry Services have already had a complaint upheld against them at the end of last year brought by the Advertising Standards Authority for claiming to be able to pre register .EU domains when in fact they not accredited to do so. After speaking to Cambridgeshire trading standard (where this company are based) it transpires that this new scam is being investigated by the police.
