Paul Hartley Wrote "My whole professional life is in the macro world."
I thought I was the only one interested in Macro. It comes as a bit of a shock, but even current state-of-the-art digital lenses, when stopped down smaller than f16.5 are pants. "The days of f209 are gone". Not very small on 600mm "Film just masked the rubbish lens performance." Conversely, digital makes good use of lenses which had/have resolving power far better than film - I have a Leica-made-for-Novoflex LINSE 400mm f5.6, which I look forward to using on digital. "sacrificing quality for DOF" You need a good lens to use 80Mp in 16 shot, and for macro on a 5cm * 4cm CCD, you would get no DOF. But, by reducing the magnification, you can get 'adequate' res with better DOF with two or three square cm of CCD in 16 shot. "DOF is a problem, but there are ways round it involving technique and depending on subject matter." Could you let us into some of your secrets?
