It could just be that your computer simply needs its annual reinstallation of Windows :-) (i.e one of the operating system files has become corrupted or lost). Check your hard disk well before proceeding - it could be the cause. It could be that your graphics card has died. (if it has one, i.e. not just serviced by a chip on the motherboard. I think the most significant word in your question is "old". Sounds as if you have done everything obvious. Probably I would back up everything and go shopping. Or change your artistic style to fauvism and work in 16 colours! Hope this helps.
