I suspect the battery life with a D70 makes the car charger pretty superfluous!

You'd probably be right under 'normal conditions'.... but I sometimes am away for a few days, staying in my campervan (in the middle of nowhere rather than a camping-site)... So the only chance of recharging my batteries is the inverter
