Pricing work is a subject that probably can not be concluded satisfactorily.
Take someone working from home with a single PC a modest digital camera and a few
lights.
Assuming a skill level which will be adequate to produce good pack shot work their
hourly
rate can be pitched much lower and probably with a higher profit margin than someone
who
has invested in higher end kit and a studio they will therefore get more work
especially
repeat work.

Now unless we all start from the same baseline we can not charge similar fees.
My current working kit comprises 2 Kodak Pro bodies 3 zoom lenses a Macro lens and 3
SB800 flashguns, all this fits in a Pelicase along with the laptop.
I know its modest compared with pro back kit etc but it suits my work

compare the investment with the kit used previously
2 Hasselblads 3 lenses plus a superwide.several Metz flash guns.
Contax 35mm outfit 5 lenses etc
5x4 outfit plus 5 lenses
120 monorail plus 3 lenses.
Polaroid backs for each
Studio lighting remains the same for both systems
Film processor,paper processor and enlargers
flatbed and drum scanners
So which system carries the higher investment, which requires the higher usage fee.
I have far less work coming in than I did 10 years ago but my profitability has risen.
I no longer need or indeed get 5 days work a week
