I've got a G4 Powerbook that's a year and a bit old. It has a built-in Matshita superdrive which writes DVD's at 1x only. I've just replenished my DVD supply and can only get hold of 4x write speed DVD's now, which don't appear work in my 1x writer. The Powerbook has been back to Apple twice now and DVD's still won't burn. Apple tell me that there are no firmware updates for this DVD writer. Can it really be true that the DVD writer part of this laptop is now unusable at just over a year old, given that it's virtually impossible to get hold of 1x DVD's anymore? Or is there something wrong with the laptop that Apple aren't finding? I'm being given conflicting information about whether 4x DVD's should work in a 1x writer.
The fault that happens is that DVD's get part way through burning (say 30 minutes into a burn) and then come up with an error message saying hardware error, incompatible format. Any ideas? Replies off-list please. Jo =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
