Thanks to all for your suggestions. 
I was concerned because the Mac sales chap couldn't be certain that the �1400 pound worth of Laptop that I was interested in was going to work with my existing �1100 scanner.
You would think that they would know about these things as it could mean the difference between a sale or no sale.
