I have just been editing a batch of pictures taken when the battery on my 1ds was flashing 'flat'. However I was still able to take pictures and they recorded on the CF card OK. Viewing on screen at 100% I can see that many of the frames are not sharp all over despite the shutter speed of 1/500. Others are focussed well forward despite my technique of checking focus on Auto and then turning to manual.

Is this, as I suspect, a problem related to the nearly flat battery? Or is it something else? How can I foretell how much power I have left? Batteries have gone flat at anything between 225 and 400 exposures depending on the speed of shooting. Do I simply change after every two 1GB CF cards?

About 1,000 frames since are as sharp as they should be.

Thanks in advance
