For this day I'm standing in for Ellie Kennard, our new list mum. I have to confess that William's message has not yet reached me through the list server - but has been forwarded to me by one who has received it (the wonders of modern technology!)
While fully understanding William's viewpoint, I would point out that we did have a fair amount of "bloodletting" on this subject a few weeks ago. This had been duly noted by the list owner and revised guidelines are in the process of formulation.
While we no doubt all have strong opinions on this issue, most of them have already been expressed.
I personally (not in my capacity as a list mum) don't happen to agree fully with William - and am happy to discuss that with anyone OFF LIST
But meanwhile - THIS IS NOT AN ON LIST TOPIC.

Dear Pro-DIG list
Three weeks ago, I made a posting on this forum titled "UV FILTERS - BAD
SCIENCE AND URBAN MYTHS". This was made in response to a growing
irritation with amateurs pontificating on and on about an important
subject they knew precious little about, and I was subsequently shot down
and belittled. Well, not *really* belittled, I am made of sterner stuff
than that, but it got me thinking about the way this list works. We have
approximately 50 regular contributers with about 1600 lurkers in the
background, all cherry-picking digital gems while contributing nothing in
return. This really sucks bigtime.
