It was hardly an empirical test, but I did use (amongst others) a Nikkor 240mm (from my old Linhof 10x8) when I tried the Valeo 22. I was pretty impressed with the result.
By which I mean I'd have been more than prepared to submit the results had they been a job.
I believe the common consensus on digital lenses is that they make a big difference on the shorter focal lengths - up to 90mm say - but it's less critical on longer lenses. Just another reason I feel why photographers have been right to push for bigger chips whilst the manufacturers still insist on going for smaller cells.
