Your post sounds like deja vu to me. I had exactly the same experience in
February when I bought a 120mm Macro. My set up is the same as yours except
I use a Phase one H20
I also have a digitar 80mm M in a Rollei shutter and it performs superbly
down to f16.5
The 120 digitar is a disappointment by comparison. I sent the original back
to Schneider and the replacement was marginally better. The lens seems
unusually sensitive to focus and exposed the accuracy (or lack of it) of the
Xact. The fact remains though it is not as good as the 80mm despite their
graphs and charts.

It is however not a bad lens and will produce acceptable results but only
down to f16 and in fact the same is true of the 80mm Macro and the other
digital lenses.
Perhaps you have a rogue lens? Schneider ought to investigate.

Strangely image degradation seems less apparent with Nikon macro glass at
smaller apertures, but there again I use them with a Philips chip so the
pixel well size might be a factor.

Cheers

Paul
