I was having lots of problems on location because I have four different makes of CF cards. I went into a high street camera shop miles from home and explained the problem. The assistant immediately said the Lexar reader was at fault and sold me a 'universal' reader made by A. N. O. Nymous. Haven't had a problem since. Now I realise this isn't conclusive but the Lexar card worked fine with Lexar cards but not with Fuji cards.

Dear Bob, what do you mean "only"?
I have one very effective FW card reader and it reads my Microtech cards
with no hesitation. What you can't do is to try to recover data using the
USB recovery cable from other brands of cards.
I would not mind if you mail me your reader instead of throwing it..
