>From our just released September issue:

A new Wacom tablet, the Intuos 3, will be announced in the next few days.
This is the next big development in the tablet, just like the eraser, the
directional pen, and the Cintiq. The Intuos 3 has twice the sensitivity
and four buttons (ExpressKeys) and a slide area (Touch Strip) on each of the
top two corners. These buttons can be set to do almost any task you want,
but the default is to keyboard modifiers Ctrl, Alt, Shift, and Spacebar. The
slider is really just a sensitive groove that you can control with the pen
or your finger. We have ours set to scroll on one side and to zoom in and
out on the other side. In Painter we use one to control brush size. You will
very quickly become dependent on these new tools, making common tasks much
quicker; with not only image editors and drawing applications but with just
about anything. We have one set to Alt+Tab for quickly changing between
applications. The pen has been redesigned to be more comfortable, with a
spongy grip. The new mouse uses no batteries and has five programmable
buttons and a scroll wheel.
The software that comes with the tablet includes Photoshop Elements 2,
Painter Essentials 2, and nik Color Efex Pro 2, as well as Wacom brushes.
Now, more than ever, the Wacom has become an essential tool for artists,
designers, and photographers. The tablet is USB only and comes in three
sizes: 4x5, 6x8, and 9x12. Prices are $199.99, $329.99, and $449.99.
