Dear Bob, I think there are OS issues involved in that part of the problem. I have noticed the "sliding slider" in iBooks and other Macs when coming out of Sleep just as well as when booting.
I would suggest to reset the Open Firmware as per the standard method suggested by Apple Care,
(To Reset Open Firmware. Reboot your computer while holding down the command-option-o-f keys simultaneously. At the prompt, type"reset-nvram" and hit the Return key, then type "reset-all" and hit the Return key again. Your computer will reboot.)
I solved a Sleep problem ( more precisely, an Insomnia problem since the machine would never go to Sleep ) this way, and somehow the Brightness "sliding slider" is working relatively better, Hope this works for you too.

Back into the monitors issue, however this part of the problem seems small compared to the ultra Blue-ish LCD general screen tone. I actually like it a LOT, since the cold look screen is my favorite, but in practical terms, all settings looks pretty much like 9600 K and then again, I recall adjusting my ACR default settings to partially compensate the excess yellowish hue from the "Daylight" White Point Camera setting ( Canon's) in my CRT monitors where the yellowish cast was visibly obvious , and now, without adjusting my Default settings, I don't see the cast at all in LCD's, and it worries me, since I may be observing the wrong thing, and as I can't act correctly without any previous knowledge on this sort of monitors, I am at a loss here and need assistance.
