Hi, as my career path can be confusing I'll try to
keep this brief I am a journalist turned
photo-assistant over a three year period and in recent
months I have started to take on more of my own
photography jobs. These jobs have included some
reportage-style work for a London-based guide book,
portraiture for a small record company and several
people images for a charity's advertising campaigns.
I've had a Nikon D100 for around 1.5years, and 6
months ago upgraded from a G3 Powerbook to a
secondhand and software laden G4 933, with 60GB hard
disc and 1.25GB Ram, running OS10.3.
Now to my first posting:
The G4 seemed fine to begin with, but Pshop CS crashed
more often than I had expected. So just before taking
on a large job, I tried a live software update. The G4
crashed in the middle of this and I ended up with a
damaged system that wouldn't run. When I reinstalled
everything, Photoshop CS would no longer run. Since
this happened I have rebuilt the system many times,
always with the same result - when you click on the CS
icon, nothing happens. Adobe Indesign does the same
thing, and Photoshop 7 crashes about after 10 seconds,
just as it is beginning to load. I have tried using
the program Disc Doctor and have tried zeroing the
disc as described on the Apple website, but all to no
avail.
If I install OS10.2, Photoshop 7 works, but as I don't
have a good raw plug in, I have the problem of doing
batch raw processes which I was previously doing in
CS. I have got by with a trial version of Nikon
Capture 3, but found it slow compared to Adobe Raw.
So, does anyone have any ideas? Any thoughts would be
much appreciated as I am now at loss for what to do,
and feel concerned that if I invest more money in the
machine I will only encounter more frustation.
Thanks for your replies,
best regards
Andrew Brackenbury
