This is something that we have been looking at for the forthcoming Pic4Press standard. The jury is still out as to if we recommend the existing ECI profiles for the relevant press conditions or generate new ones with revised ink limits. We also are looking longer term at variations of black generation for image specific conversions .The question at present is whether it is better to adopt existing 'solutions' or build a bespoke , but as yet untested , solution.
I suspect that the former will be adopted initially , especially as we have such packages as the Altona Suite to aid research , but in the long term a more specific image/substrate format may evolve.
