Yes it is very disappointing but useful nevertheless. Never timed it accurately but approx 10mins per IGB - certainly felt like it on a snowy mountain top last winter! It's possible that the cold had the effect of deteriorating battery charge. I used it in Lanzarote in 48� and the battery life was obviously longer but still only about 3 downloads before battery warnings - and that's without any reviewing! However, as I'm more of an fine-art landscape photographer I'm not usually blasting through loads of pictures each day so I'm always able to recharge the unit from the mains or car battery each night. Hence, I don't see that battery life is actually as relevant as you think. Spare batteries are only about � 25 each so a couple of freshly charged spares is not a big hassle or weight IMO.
The download time from CF to unit is definitely the most frustrating but it does allow for either a hot cuppa from your flask or maybe even a cold beer whilst it does its job!
