Martin, excuse my ignorance here, but why is flash better than a HF, stable & accurate lightbox?

The output from fluorescent tubes is extremely 'spiky'. It is devoid of many of the visible wavelengths and has a few in abundance. It does not contain the full spectrum of light that a tungsten or a flash source has. On film, in my experience, a lightbox always produced inferior dupes etc than an Illumitran (basically a small lightbox with a flash head in it). I guess the same would be true for digital.
