Perhaps Windows Explorer was 'passive' in the past, but not so now. > This lack of active CM for the Windows web browser has insisted we > all convert to sRGB (a de facto standard for gamma=2.2 monitors) for wwweb > presentation. I'll probably learn of recent changes in this regard too. Interestingly, if I view the same image on screen with the Windows web browser alongside PS and Windows Explorer, I get three different views of the image. But whereas Windows Explorer is interpretating the tags (but differently from PS), the browser is not. I made the browser display both a tagged and untagged image simultaneously, and they displayed identically. However my main interest in raising this query is not regarding the browser, but it is with Windows Explorer and if there are any means to bring it's colour management processes into line with PS.
