It is a Mediawiki platform that already supported many translations and a dynamic team (see http://framalang.org ).It offers some basic translation-oriented mediawiki templates like show/hide source/translation features.
My experience : It's easier to write text using wiki (especially when source and translated sections and both visible) that with docbook tools but 1) IMO it's not a good solution to produce others format that HTML and 2) no good spelling/ grammar / typographic tools are available under a simple browser so I have to perform copy/paste to Ooo (for ie). On format translation: * Not 100% sure but I feel that mediawiki comes with most of docbook features. In the case of Producing OSS framalang translation, we use hardly formatting (planned to be set in docbook manually after the translation being finished) but I do think we could reach the same formatting level than the docbook one in mediawiki. * On mediawiki -> docbook translation: - A mediawiki -> docbook extension project exists (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/DocBook_XML_export) but seems to be idled - The best think I found so far is http://tools.wikimedia.de/~magnus/wiki2xml/w2x.php but it doesn't look to work great, at least for me. - Moreover, in our case (framalang wiki), we have to extract the source and the translation. I tried some java scripts using regexp without success so far. Conclusion: we decided to make all conversion manually once the translation will be completed. (copy/paste to xxe for ie) and to add formatting then. This will probably a huge and ungrateful work. We're are obviously very interested by any information on wiki to docbook transformation tools.
