This may sound negative, but.. as you already said nothing in your rant is really relevant here, and repeating it will not accomplish much. setuptools, which is known to be awful in various ways, is the only packaging and distribution system we have for python. It has its own mailinglist which is also use for zc.buildout development: distutils-sig on python.org. If you want to vent you should do that there.
