I don't think the P4A stack is being maintained as a whole though I think the p4a.calendar stuff is being actively developed. I think it would be great for you to submit a fix as long as all the tests in the p4a buildout pass at the end of your work. Further your approach sounds correct to me and is how I would do it. So I'd say you should check in with Lennart about p4a.calendar implications and see what he says.
