Thanks, Andreas, Very strangely, when I tried to use pdb (and I *did* try to use pdb before I posted originally), in foreground mode, the pdb shell never launched. Likewise, various attempts to use try/except to track down the problem seemed to be swallowed as well. All I got (and continue to get) is the infuriatingly uninformative "There was an error rendering the portlet". With the try/except I don't even get a traceback (but I still get "There was an error rendering the portlet".)
I am running in debug mode, but is there some other setting or buildout switch I need to change in order to be able to debug this portlet? Best wishes, Michael A.
