The nice thing about the python buildout should be that you do not need
all those system packages, as they may get removed from the distribution
(Ubuntu) or they may not work properly (python on Max Os X Snow
Leopard). So the python buildout compiles python, libjpeg, zlib and PIL
itself. And it works, but it forgets where it has put the library. :-)
  At least, that is what I now see on Ubuntu 10.04 (in a VirtualBox);
works fine on Mac.

The Universal Installer for Plone basically does the same thing as far
as I see: it compiles its own python, libjpeg, zlib, PIL. And it looks
like this is working fine in Ubuntu 10.04 still. So I think the python
buildout can learn something from the universal installer.
