Allow me to throw in a belated +1 for a "hand migration", via "one off" script such as: - http://pypi.python.org/pypi/parse2plone I'm actually now interested in both approaches. While transmogrifier gets a bad rap for being "heavy" I think there are times when you do want to reach for something more than a "one off" script. I know Dylan has worked very hard to try and make transmogrifier more approachable via funnelweb ; and I in turn have worked very hard to create the best possible "one off" script available to serve as an example for everyone; it currently has 50% test coverage and climbing. Once I achieve 100% test coverage for parse2plone, I'll be taking a closer at funnelweb and transmogrifier. As has been pointed out to me by many folks, it's always important to be aware of pre-existing solutions; and to promote reuse over reinvention as much as possible, because we all win that way. But ultimately you are responsible for satisfying your client's needs. Does the client care that you have performed the migration with a resusable framework? In some cases yes, others cases no. Do other Plone developers care about you implementing a one-off solution? In some cases yes, in other cases no. There are always going to be trade-offs between reuse and reinvention.
