I can't say anything about Facebook integration - never needed that on Plone. But I can give you some leads on general user and group handling and LDAP integration. 1 - Plone overall user handling. Plone uses an architecture based on plugins to deal with users, which is called PAS. Zope's (Plone application/database server) user handling mechanism is explained here: http://docs.zope.org/zope2/zope2book/Security.html (PAS is one of the types of "user folder" one can use in Zope). For PAS, you can read this: http://plone.org/documentation/manual/developer-manual/users-and-security/pluggable-authentication-service/ , this: http://plone.org/documentation/manual/plone-community-developer-documentation/members and this: http://collective-docs.plone.org/members/index.html. 2 - For LDAP integration, you can install a Plone or Zope product that creates a PAS plugin for whatever services you need (Authentication, Group Enumeration, etc.), like the excellent PloneLDAP (you can install it as the plone.app.ldap egg).
