Merry Fitzmas, Moonbats!

Frankly I can't believe even Libby was charged on perjury (a rather
hard-to-prove charge unless the defendant was completely incompetent),
though I think he was trying to cover up his torrid extramarital
relationship with that NYT reporter, and that, more than anything, got
his arse in the sling. No tears for Libby.

But the idea that Rove would be "caught" "leaking" and then lying
about it was always far-fetched, no matter how badly his political
enemies wanted some grounds, ANY grounds, to knock him out of the
game.

First of all, what "leak"? It has yet to be determined (and will
likely be found untrue) that she was even truly a "covered" agent, let
alone that her "outting" really met the fairly stringent statutory
requirements for being considered such. In reality, she was in a desk
job at Langley for the last 5 years, and the selection of her
flamboyant husband (who had no problem outting her himself any other
time) as the guy to go have tea with the president of Niger to dispell
any truth to the yellowcake argument was a classic CIA operation to
set up precisely the situation that followed.

It's funny how harsh, personal criticism of the President is OK, but
general criticism and demystification of "humble public servant" Joe
Wilson and his political motives (obvious to anyone with a functional
medulla oblongata) was considered bad.

All the administration did was point out how peculiar it was that this
guy's wife (a CIA employee) recommended him for the job, though he
claimed to have been selected differently. I think this was an obvious
covert operation designed to set up a leak/perjury scandal. It was
bogus from the get go, more the result of political in-fighting at
CIA, which has been pretty messed up for years because of politics,
than any actual internal debate about the merits of the WMD charges.
They long ago forgot how to collect actionable intelligence (witness
George Tenet's "slam dunk" over Iraq WMD intelligence), and instead
got good at orchestrating political intrigue---like this whole bogus
"scandal" over a desk jockey's supposedly top secret identity.
