! It's funny how the Republicans seem to continue to blame Clinton for
! everyting, even though Bush is serving his second term in office.

Dude, I don't blame Clinton for everything, and I have a laundry list
of issues with Dubya. And believe me you people will be cursing Bush
in a similar vein long after he's gone, it's just a natural political
thing.

Unlike Bubba though, Bush and his family have some class, so you won't
be listening to Bush on the stump at home and abroad bashing the
current White House occupant when he retires. Clinton keeps popping up
with his typical "Dig Me" attitude, which for me is what I found most
objectionable about his personality style from Day One, after I
watched his performance at his first "Town Hall" meeting back during
the 92 campaign. I knew then we were in for 8 years of prevarication
and camera hogging. I didn't think they'd extend another 8 years
beyond that...

I think more than his policies (which were "liberal to moderate
Republican" after his wife was knocked off her "let me run the entire
healthcare system, I'm so much smarter than everybody else" soapbox)
it was his personality that rubbed me the wrong way.

I think the same dynamic is at work for those who loathe Bush. His
apparent difficulty with public speaking and his pleasant persistence
with his views over objections drive them bonkers. Any rational look
at his policies would reveal a mix of cultural conservative but fiscal
liberal---he has NO conservative credentials at the moment on things
like social spending. Yet because they hate his personality so much,
liberals literally believe he's slashing everything when in fact he is
not only increasing spending on everything, but adding new
entitlements to boot.

On the merits you'd think more Republicans should like Clinton and
more Democrats should like Bush... But I think it's a personality
style issue which, when combined with political predispositions,
magnifies the passion against that person.

Just a theory...

! Woaaah... fact stop... Clinton Signed Kyoto, The right wing and Bush
! stalled it and then reneged on it..

Actually things like that need to be ratified by Congress. It was the
GOP congress that would have nothing of it, and thank God for that.

Kyoto was a suicide pact among industrialized nations, letting
"developing nations" continue to pollute the earth instead (and at an
accelerated pace, since the industrial nations would be strapped in
terms of how much they could output, and SOMEBODY would have to pick
up the global demand slack). The people whining about the modest $1
jump in gas prices after the liberation of Iraq would definitely have
blamed the Republicans in Congress for $6/gallon gas if they were
stupid enough to ratify Kyoto.

I hope the Democrats ratify Kyoto if they take power. It'll be the
shortest reign in the history of Congressional elections.

Prediction: Democrats also wouldn't ratify it either if they were in
Republican's boots. It's one of those things like useless gay marriage
ban amendments and flag burning amendments where you can go "on the
record" knowing there isn't a snowball's chance in hell of it making
it through the gauntlet of the bicameral legislature and the other two
branches of government. That is, you can be fore it even if you are
against it (like John Kerry, only more artfully executed).

(Unfortunately politicians on both sides thrive on such issues.)

! But don't let facts stop you once again from having a bash at
! Clinton as
! I'm sure you will once Hilary is your President.

That won't happen. We'll sooner end up with the Ambulance Chaser
(Edwards) or somebody of his slimy ilk than another Clinton if a
Democrat wins the White House in 2008. I also think the Bushes are
done as a dynasty, though I like Jeb and wish sometimes he was
President and not George. Still, time to move on.

I'm looking forward to life after both families enter the footnotes of
history.

It's a chance for both parties to reform according to first
principles. That would be the best thing that could happen.
