One of the big benefits that was supposed to come from this brave new world of Vista and .Net was managed code, which is supposed to eliminate the structural weaknesses that resulted in a large share of the security problems which Microsoft is infamous for. Using managed code was supposed to result in a secure platform.

But now we learn that Microsoft isn't following their own advice. The same swiss-cheese code that has resulted in their security performance problems in the past is still there. The office apps are not managed code; the server apps are not managed code, and the OS is not managed code.

Code re-use is great when the code itself is good. It is utterly stupid when the code is not good.
