The concept that humanity is evolving into a higher, more complete being with both physical and spiritual energy is appealing. This would be especially appealing, if it lead to a world were all people realized their universal unity, connection, dependence, and brotherhood with one another.

Personally, I would settle for a world enlighten enough to debates issues around negotiating tables, rather than on the battlefield of war. The idea that humanity is actually messing around with nuclear, biological, and chemical weapon (eg WMD) is incomprehensible, and the US is to blame, as much as any other country that is proliferating.

We should all be working together to solve our common problems, and to strengthen our unifying bonds. We could then begin working towards eliminating chemical, biological, and nuclear bombs, rather than building them in ways that make them even more lethal and usable. I feel like we are currently headed do a road to perdition, but America is wising up o what has happened, and with mid-term elections near, we have a chance to change the directions of our country, and the world. I, like you, believe our best hope for the future is a UN whose integrity, fairness, compassion, impartiality, and honesty is beyond reproach, and a UN that is supported and respected by all countries around the world.. Through such a UN, all debates could be worked out peacefully with fair and just solutions.

Nothing special going on here, Leland. If anything, I'm torn between
senses of humility and righteousness. I see that "truth" is relative and
the world is nothing more, nothing less then what we make it to be. I
see how the lust for power has affected people through history, and how
it's happening again, only this time the stakes really are too high.
Conventional wisdom is that it takes power to fight power, but history
also tells us that's not always the case. I wouldn't bet on another
leader the likes of Gandhi or MLK to emerge, because the ruler-friendly
media barons are experts at eating and spitting out individuals for
breakfast, but if enough ordinary people like us stand together, we can
show that democracy really is all the good things we say it is. Just
common sense, right?

Who would have thought we'd be in this position today?

Bill
