Wouldn't that remove all legitimate alpha and just leave the rest?
I think he wants:
CHRTRAN( string, ".', 1234567890", "")
The first 4 chars are period, apostrophe, comma, and space. He
could add whatever else he needs stripped out, as well.
You could always create a UDF to use in the SELECT statement, and
use the function I wrote in <http://leafe.com/archives/showMsg/270593>
