As a technology leader, MS's day is gone. The company will be around for
some time to come because they have the lion's share of the market, but
their infrastructure is unsustainable. The company was built from the
bottom after grabbing the brass ring of the PC OS and running with it,
but inattention to important infrastructure items is taking it's toll,
and they're caught now between the rock (having to maintain backwards
compatibility) and the hard place (doing it right), and there is no easy
way out.

They had a whopper of a chance when the split-up of the company was
considered, as painful as that might have been, it would have given the
company a foundation for the future. But it didn't happen.

Personally, I'm not worried about it anymore. VFP is just fine for now
and for the foreseeable future, and it has tremendous prospects for
worldwide sales to boot. For anyone concerned with the longer term and
bigger picture, watch IBM and Linux.
