It was the French Festima team who were found to be at the centre of the drugs
scandal, and it was the French cyclist Richard Virenque who denied taking drugs
for two years (and only admitted taking them when faced with incontrovertible
evidence).

Lance was never accused at the time of taking drugs. Only since his retiring
has the French media swung into a full on attack on him.

What the French media have never liked, is that a cocky American has completely
dominated their most famous race for seven years.

In fact, everyone knows that the '98 french tour was wholly and generally doped.
So it just seems curious to french media that Lance is not guilty just because
he was the champ'.

Very paranoïd, i know ... but it's our cultural way of exception :o)))
