Got ghostscript PDFCreator downloaded and working now. Problem is setting the output to black & white doesn't make any difference, it is still saved as colour. Also over twice the size of the original, I just tested a 4Mb file that goes to over 11Mb when printed to PDFCreator as 75dpi black & white!
