I believe it is a problem with TapeWare. You HAVE to use their drivers IIRC. Obviously they are playing some games :) I even reloaded TapeWare, upgraded it, etc., etc. and it still did not work until the Dell tech came and changed the driver. The tech didn't know until he spent hours on the phone talking to HQ. This must be a very well-guarded secret and perhaps I should not have mentioned it. Perhaps I will be swept up by the powers that be and incarcerated for sharing this with you. If so, please send me some crackers and tea. Thanks. :)

I am saying that in my case, the Windows driver did not work well with the OEM drive installed by Dell. The Dell tech disabled the Windows driver and installed a TapeWare driver. Very flaky performance. It would work great for days and then crap out, then work, etc. Called Dell to fix it (replace the drive on a 13-month-old system). At the moment, I think the issue is 2 fold... 1) The drive is starting to fail because occasionally the tape cannot be mounted and thus the backup aborts. 2) NTBackup could be having fits. It complains about Volume Shadow Copy. When we installed the tape drive, we just started using NTBackup. We didn't bother with Tapeware which came free with the device. Does anybody use Tapeware?
