I believe it is a problem with TapeWare. You HAVE to use their drivers
IIRC. Obviously they are playing some games :) I even reloaded
TapeWare, upgraded it, etc., etc. and it still did not work until the
Dell tech came and changed the driver. The tech didn't know until he
spent hours on the phone talking to HQ. This must be a very
well-guarded secret and perhaps I should not have mentioned it. Perhaps
I will be swept up by the powers that be and incarcerated for sharing
this with you. If so, please send me some crackers and tea. Thanks. :)

Heh, completely misunderstood you there!

The device I am using is a Re-Branded HP DAT72 drive. It uses HP
drivers, which I have just pulled down the latest version for.

Tapeware (Yosemite Tech) I thought it was just a backup app? Does it
have drivers as well?

NO! I am saying that in my case, the Windows driver did not work well
with the OEM drive installed by Dell. The Dell tech disabled the
Windows driver and installed a TapeWare driver. Why Dell did not do
this when they built the machine is a mystery but that is what happened.

Hmm, interesting. So your saying that you can use Tapeware with the
windows driver, and you can also use it with its own driver?

Tristan, I had the same problem with a DELL box running SBS2003 and
TapeWare. Very flaky performance. It would work great for days and
then crap out, then work, etc. Called Dell to fix it (replace the drive
on a 13-month-old system). The tech spent 3 hours on the phone with
Dell HQ and eventually disabled the Windows driver in favor of the one
that came with TapeWare. Not one single problem since.

Hi All,

Currently having some fun trying to get the backups working on a SBS2003
server.

At the moment, I think the issue is 2 fold...

1) The drive is starting to fail because occasionally the tape cannot be
mounted and thus the backup aborts.

2) NTBackup could be having fits. It complains about Volume Shadow
Copy.

When we installed the tape drive, we just started using NTBackup. We
didn't bother with Tapeware which came free with the device. Does
anybody use Tapeware?

Cheers
