I am unclear as to why this makes him a hypocrite?

Peter Coors is one of the most prominent right-wing supporters of "moral" causes, and he and his family have spent a good deal of their personal fortune to this end. He also appears on commercials promoting Coors beer advising kids to "drink responsibly". Yet he goes to a party, drinks excessively, and doesn't bother to call a cab (or, in his case, a limo) to drive him home.

People make mistakes; I certainly understand that. But when you devote a large part of your life and your fortune to loudly calling for others who make mistakes to face severe penalties and then try to explain away your own actions, you are a hypocrite. Think of Rush Limbaugh and his repeated rants against drug abusers who get away with slaps on the wrist because they aren't poor, inner city users.
