I too am impressed at their attempt, them and Mr. Buffet (and Ted Turner when he tried to give $2 billion to the U.N.)

Unfortunately, the vast majority of the super-rich are using their money to harm others rather than help them...the Gatses and Buffets and Turners are a tiny minority of altruistic folk among the filthy rich.

I just consider it a shame that such a small number of people have that much power... This is an indictment of the "system"...

I was thinking that myself but I didn't want to broach the topic. I am
not against creating surplus wealth (if you are, please send me whatever
you don't need), but there should not be a need to resort to immoral or
illegal methods to obtain it. Unfortunately, if only one person works
that way (underhandedly), then others must respond in kind to
defend/protect themselves. This process continues and eventually will
produce society as we know it today.

My guess is that it's a pitiful aspect of the human condition. You try
to do the most for your company. You overstep boundary's that blur
your focus on your actions and how your persona is morphing from good
person to sinner.

Business leaders, and politicians are the easily spotted individuals.

But in reality we cannot blame Bush or Gates for the current condition
of things. In that they are within a group or a large group and
decisions are made that never ever cross them personally. Their
respective empires are way to vast for them to be on top of everything.

When we see that the Bill and Melinda foundation is going to attempt to
improve the world I am impressed. He personally has the funding
potential, and the friends who can kindly toss in a few billion as
well. Was it all Melinda's doing to warm a heart of stone? Who knows.
