Somebody sees the ugliness of the grey area in Muslim thinking.
Grey area? You must be kidding. It's a big, black-hole, giant-sucking-sound area that makes any reference to our so-called "religious righters" laughable in comparison. This is the thing I just don't get from those who paint our policy in such starkly immoral terms: Would you rather that the kind of thinking illustrated in that "debate" by the opponents to that very reasonable woman really continue in that part of the world? She echoes my sentiment that what it is, even more than a clash of cultures, is a clash between modernity and the middle ages. Even Christopher Hitchens, no right-winger, he, gets it. Say what you want about the Zionists; the Islamonazi's are SO 14th century. I certainly don't think the Israelis are inherently our buddies, nor do I think that there are any theological or eschatological reasons to support them, as many of my neo-con and fundamentalist acquaintances do. But just on the fact that they represent some splinter of modernity in a region of the world that is otherwise a virtual time warp to the dark ages, I can't help but be sympathetic to their cause vs. the happy head hackers on the other side, who have no problem, for instance, firing on the Israelis from civilian areas, knowing full well the Israelis won't fuck around with "nuances" about where the rockets are coming from. - Bob ! ! !
